Bhopal`s lake to be developed as major tourist spot

With an aim to develop Bhopal`s man-made lake, popularly known as "Bada Talab", as a major tourist attraction, the Madhya Pradesh government will rope in experts to chalk out a beautification flan for it, officials said.

man-made lake, popularly known as "Bada Talab", as a major
tourist attraction, the Madhya Pradesh government will rope in
experts to chalk out a beautification flan for it, officials
said on Sunday.

A decision in this regard was taken at a high-level
meeting chaired by state Urban Administration and Development
Minister Babulal Gaur yesterday, the officials said.

The said an `Idea Competition" would be organised soon
to choose best plan for upgradation of the popular site.

Besides, the officials said, a bird sanctuary and
botanical garden would also be developed near the lake, built
by the erstwhile ruler, Raja Bhoj, by the Forest Department.

The state Tourism Development Corporation has
expressed its desire to run a battery-run small-train for the
tourists from a place close to Chief Minister`s residence to
the Van Vihar National Park-cum-Zoo, around the lake, they
said.

It was also decided at the meeting that the Bhopal
Municipal Corporation (BMC) will not allow any kind of
construction work within a distance of 200 metres from the
catchment area of the lake, built by the erstwhile ruler, Raja
Bhoj, they said.

An aerial survey of the lake, spread over 56 km
perimeter will be taken for development purposes, officials
said.
