Aftershocks continue to rock Andaman and Nicobar Islands

New Delhi, Jan 05: Aftershocks of moderate intensity continued to rock the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, ten days after a massive earthquake off the coast of the Indonesian Island of Sumatra triggered giant Tsunami waves which killed nearly 1,50,000 people in South and Southeast Asia.

A tremor measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale was felt south of Great Nicobar at 2049 hours IST last night, Indian Meteorological Department said, adding another quake of the
same magnitude hit the region at 2357 hours IST.

In the early hours of today (0038 hours), a tremor measuring 5.2 on the scale occurred south of Great Nicobar Island, the Met office said.

Still another earthquake was experienced west of Little Andaman Island seven minutes later. It was measured at 5.5 on the Richter scale, the department said.
