Los Angeles, Feb 25: Stars, filmmakers and movie moguls gathered at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday for the 80th annual Academy Awards.

Here are some selected quotes from the Oscars show.

"We`re really thrilled to have received it, and we`re very thankful to all of you out there for letting us continue to play in our corner of the sandbox."

Joel Coen, on receiving the best director Oscar with his brother Ethan for "No Country For Old Men."

"I think whatever success we`ve had in this area has been entirely attributable to how selective we are. We`ve only adapted Homer and Cormac McCarthy."

Joel Coen, who also shared the adapted screenplay Oscar with Ethan.

"That`s the closest I`ll ever come to getting a knighthood."

Daniel Day-Lewis, on receiving his best actor award for "There Will Be Blood" from actress Helen Mirren, who famously played Queen Elizabeth in "The Queen."

"Since November, we`ve been on the trail. You then have to run a popularity contest and go on a campaign trail, you could go around kissing babies and end up feeling a complete fraud."

Day-Lewis, on the promotional campaign for his movie in the run-up to the Oscars.

French actress Marion Cotillard, to reporters backstage after being awarded the Oscar for her lead role as Edith Piaf in "La Vie en Rose."

Glen Hansard, describing how the U2 singer congratulated him by mobile phone text message on his Oscar for best song.
