Mumbai, March 29: Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kajol, Urmila Matondkar and Amisha Patel. No, they are not the cast of a multi-starrer film but those among the front row at designer Manish Malhotra’s collection showcase at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Saturday. Decked in a dull orange halter neck knee-length dress, Kareena was the cynosure of all eyes as she walked inside the auditorium, hanging to the arm of boyfriend Saif Ali Khan. He was dressed in blue jeans and grey T-shirt.
“It is so encouraging to see your friends (stars) take out time and make sure they attend your show. It is so heartening that they believe in you so much,” Malhotra told reporters, after the show.
The creative expert is among the 57 designers, established and new, who are displaying their creative brilliance at the March 29-April 2 glamour packed fashion fete at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) here.
Narendra Kumar, Kiran Uttam Ghosh, Neeta Lulla, Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Wendell Rodricks are some of the other big names who will feature at the extravaganza.
The show - Manish Malhotra presents Lux Temptations - was sponsored by leading consumer goods company Hindustan Unilever Limited.
The line offered flowing satin gowns of varied sizes, styles and designs. Some had long sashes, others halter necks, or were double-shaded and gathered and let loose at the waist.
There were also shirts, flared pants, short skirts and shorts with lots of glitter.
The designer did not use embroidery but crystal swarovski straps, disco ball shimmers at the hemline and wide golden belts to adorn his line.
The palette remained restricted to all shades of the Lux soap - peach, white, pink, red and olive.
“I didn’t use any embroidery… they were just clean outfits because I didn’t want the focus to shift from Lux. That is why the palette also remained restricted to all the colours of the soap.”
The men’s wear line had black velvet jackets, brown trousers, black leather jackets with white pants, sheen and silver quilted jackets with jeans and single button grey coat with black trousers.
