Mumbai: The total number of H1N1 cases in Maharashtra stood at 408 after 81 more people tested positive for swine flu on Tuesday, a top health official said here.
As many as 28,864 people, including 4,456 from Mumbai,
were screened for H1N1 virus in the state, Health Secretary
Sharvaree Ghokale told media persons today.

As many as 1,510 swab collections were done today, she
said, adding 137 swine flu patients are in various hospitals
and seven are on ventilators - six in Pune and one in Mumbai.

She put the number of swine flu deaths in the state at
five, all from Pune, and said the Mumbai victim may have died
of other complications and H1N1 may not be the main cause.

Asked why the government is not taking steps to close
down schools in Mumbai, Gokhale said, "we have given a general
advisory and it is up to to the schools to take a final
decision."

Asked about Mexico-style plan to contain the spread of
the deadly virus, Gokhale said "the government is changing its
strategy according to the development of the disease. Every
country follows its own course."

Meanwhile, Manisha Mhaiskar, Additional Municipal
Commissioner, said the three girls of RIMS School, who had
tested positive for H1N1 after returning from abroad, were
discharged today.
