20 fresh brain fever cases in UP, three more die

Gorakhpur, (UP) Sept 16: Twenty fresh cases of brain
fever are reported from parts of the district today, even as
three children succumbed to the deadly disease.

Three children succumbed to encephalitis (brain fever) at
BRD Medical College hospital here during the last 24 hours,
hospital sources said.

Twenty patients of suspected encephalitis have been
admitted to the hospital. This is in addition to the 165
people under treatment at BRD and various hospitals in the
region.

The patients belong to Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria,
Mahrajganj, Sant Kabir Nagar and Siddharthanagar districts,
besides one from Bihar.

Of the 1,383 cases registered at the medical college
since January, 259 died, health department sources said.
