Dr Pramod Kumar Sharma is contesting on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket from Shimla Rural Assembly Constituency in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections 2017. He is pitted against Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh.

A professor at HP University in Shimla, Pramod Sharma reportedly holds a PHd in Management of DICs from HP University.

Sharma is said to have been funded by Virbhadra Singh when he fought as an independent against Congress leader Vidya Stokes in two previous elections.

The 50-year-old is a resident of Inder Nagar in Shimla.

The Himachal High Court had in October rejected HP University's plea to set aside the interim order passed by the HP State Administrative Tribunal in favour of Pramod Sharma.

The Tribunal, in its interim order, had stayed the provision of the HP University Ordinance which debars a teacher and employees of the university from taking any part in any political activity. Following the interim order, Pramod has been allowed to contest the elections.
