New Delhi: The world's heaviest woman Eman Ahmed, who is being treated at Saifee Hospital in Mumbai, has lost more than 120 kg in less than a month.

For the first time in 25 years, the Egyptian woman, who now weighs around 380 kg, can sit up on her own.

"We thought she would lose around 50 kg, but were surprised to observe that she has lost more than 100 kg," Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, the bariatric surgeon treating Eman, was quoted as saying.

By following a liquid diet and regular physiotherapy, Ahmed was able to lost extra water, which is a major reason for weight-loss frustration.

While Ahmed is making remarkable progress so far, doctors said a bariatric surgery may still be required.

Ahmed, who arrived in Mumbai on February 11, 2017 for a weight-reduction surgery, has showed exeptional improvement despite suffering multiple strokes in between.

Doctors said they are hoping to find out what caused the strokes by next month when she is likely to fit into an MRI machine.

Having entered the league of '300 plus kilos' - which is much better from her original weight of 498kg - Dr Lakdawala revealed that Ehmad may undergo her first surgery any time soon.

He said they are now expecting her genetic report by the end of this week.

Meanwhile, the hospital has collected around Rs 60 lakh through crowd-sourcing.
