Sinusitis is a common condition in which the cavities around the nasal passages becomes inflamed. Sinusitis, also known as sinus infection or rhinosinusitis, is usually caused by infection, allergies and chemical or particulate irritation of the sinuses.

Symptoms include headache, facial pain, runny nose and nasal congestion.

Acute sinusitis, which can be triggered by a cold or allergies, may resolve on its own. However, chronic sinusitis, which is caused by an infection or growths, lasts up to eight weeks and may require antibiotics.

There are a number of natural remedies that can give relief, whether you have acute sinusitis or chronic sinusitis. These include:

Oil massage is an effective natural way to treat sinus pain. Sesame oil, eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, menthol oil are good for sinus as they all have anti-inflammatory effect and can reduce the swelling.

This is another useful remedy for sinus. Simply boil water in a small pan. Cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam continuously for 10-15 minutes to help clear the sinus passage. You can also add a few drops of eucalyptus or menthol to the boiling water if you want.

Staying hydrated benefits your body in many ways, including keeping your sinus moist. Drink plenty of fluids, particularly warm water that lubricates the mucous membrane and prevents thickening of the mucous. But, avoid beverages that contain alcohol or caffeine, which can cause dehydration.
