New Delhi: Doctors are considered a form of God across the world and there are some medical professionals who prove that in the true sense of the word.

A physician who had come to be known by the moniker “Rs 20 doctor”, became a favourite among Coimbatore locals because of his humanitarian practice.

V Balasubramanian only charged Rs 20 to treat his patients, which sometimes also included a dose of injections or tablets.

The doctor passed away from a cardiac arrest on Friday at his residence at Singanallur, leaving thousands of people mourning his loss.

On the news of his death, locals thronged his clinic in Avarampalayam, where they lit candles to pay homage, so much so, that it became difficult for the cops to control traffic.

As per a local resident, he would take about five minutes for a patient, listen to their complaints and then prescribe medicines. Sometimes, the crowd used to be so heavy that he would shut shop only by 10:30 pm or so, The Hindu reported.

Sources said that Dr Balasubramanian set up the clinic after retiring from a government hospital.
