New Delhi: Even as the national capital, along with various states across the country, is currently battling vector-borne illnesses such as dengue and chikungunya, a mystery fever has claimed more than 10 lives in a village near Noida's Sector 73 over the past fortnight.
As per a report from the Times of India, at least 12 people have died in the Sarfabad village, with the victims in the age group of 21-72 years. And around 100 people are suffering from fever in the village.
"There is panic among locals. The administration should quickly control the situation," Sukhveer Pahalwan, a Sarfabad resident and social activist was quoted as saying by TOI.
Singh, who held a meeting with officials of the health department and Noida Authority, said a medical camp was set up in Sarfabad following the incident, in which they received a total of 350 patients in the camp and 80 people were found to have mild fever.
Residents alleged that poor sanitation in the locality has resulted in the situation. Spraying of anti-larval medicines in the affected areas has been directed.
Meanwhile, the district administration on Thursday had ordered a probe to find out whether the cause of all deaths is due to an outbreak of a disease.
