New Delhi: Tension erupted at Telangana's Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital on Sunday after a four-day old baby - declared dead by a team of doctors - was brought back from the cremation ground to the hospital by the parents who claimed that their child was alive.

As per reports, the baby girl, who weighed just 450 grams, was born three days ago at a private hospital with several complications.

Since the private hospital did not have facilities to take care of premature babies, the baby was referred to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital. Her parents Srinivas and Swapna of Pegadapalli in Kazipet admitted her to the MGM hospital on June 30.

On Sunday afternoon at around 11.30 am, the baby was decalred dead by the doctor on duty, Dr Sirajuddin, and was issued a death certificate.

The parents, who took the baby to the burial ground for final rites, observed some movements in her body and rushed their child back to the hospital. The doctors, however, declared her dead.

The enraged parents and relatives pulled up the doctors for blindly delaring the baby dead, alleging that they acted negligently and did not check the ECG properly.

Doctors, on the other hand, maintained that the baby was declared dead after examining the heartbeat and ECG, which they said was found to be flat.
