New Delhi: Doctors at Mumbai's Saifee Hospital and the Centre for Obesity and Digestive Surgery (CODS) have begun performing diagnostic tests on police inspector Daulatram Jogawat, who's a victim of fat-shaming on Twitter.
As per reports, the inspector from Madhay Pradesh arrived in Mumbai on Sunday to undergo treatment for obesity.
Officials from CODS, Dr Muffajal Lakdawala, said that Jogawat will undergo a battery of diagnostic tests to ascertain if there are insulin-related or hormonal complications, reports Hindustan Times.
Jogawat, who weights about 180 kilos, had said that he started to put on weight after he underwent a gall bladder surgery in 1993.
Jogawat ame into limelight after columnist Shobhaa De poked fun at him over his obese condition in a tweet early last week. De had posted his picture with the caption 'Heavy police bandobast in Mumbai...' which resulted in heavy criticism from netizens. De later apologised and asked Jogawat to seek medical aid.
But for Jogawat, De's mocking tweet seems to be a blessing in disguise as several hospitals across the country had offered free treatment to him following the incident.
"The MP police was planning to take care of his treatment, but we were swarmed by offers from hospitals across the country . We got offers from VLCC, a clinic in Indore and bariatric surgeon Dr Mufazzal Lakdawala, among several others," Neemuch district superintendent of police Manoj Singh was quoted as saying.
Furthermore, in a tweet, De said she's glad her tweet has helped a good cause, adidng that the police need to take fitness far more seriously.
Meanwhile, Eman Ahmed, the world's heaviest Egyptian woman, who weighed 500 kilos earlier and is currently undergoing weight loss treatment at Saifee hospital, has already lost 50 kilos in last 12 days.
