The incident took place on November 30, on SpiceJet flight SG 438 from Mumbai to Amritsar that had 176 passengers on board.

New Delhi: During a mid-air flight while on the way to Amritsar, a 70-year-old man choked to death after his denture and lower jaw got dislodged and blocked his windpipe.

As the cabin crew tried to revive him, the Mumbai-Amritsar SpiceJet flight was diverted to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and the passenger was rushed to a clinic at the airport but couldn't survive.

The incident took place on November 30, on SpiceJet flight SG 438 from Mumbai to Amritsar that had 176 passengers on board. According to reports, the passenger, a native of Jalandhar, was travelling with his wife and son.

The man suffered from co-morbid conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and half of his body was already paralysed, making it a difficult case to handle, as per the doctors.

The flight resumed its journey for Amritsar after the de-boarding of the passenger and his relatives.
