Gandhinagar: Taking a jibe at Narendra Modi, Gujarat Congress OBC leader, Alpesh Thakor, said on Tuesday that the Prime Minister was a 'dark-skinned person', but become 'fair' as he eats imported mushrooms worth Rs four lakh every day.

Speaking at a rally in Gujarat, Thakor said, "Someone told me that what Modi ji eats, you can't eat because it's not poor people's food. So I asked what such food does he eat? He said he eats mushrooms. I asked what was wrong in that, mushrooms are widely available. He said that he doesn't like the ones we eat, the ones he eats are from Taiwan and the cost of one mushroom is Rs 80,000. He eats five of them every day."

He went on to say that "it's been going on ever since Modi was the CM of Gujarat" and added, "I saw his (PM Modi's) photo of 35 years ago, he was as dark as me, now how is he so fair. A PM who can eat mushrooms worth four lakhs every day, mushrooms worth one crore twenty lakhs every month, won't like regular meals."

Thakor is the founder of the OSS (OBC, SC and ST) Ekta March. He joined the Congress officially on 23 October 2017.

Reacting to Thakor's remarks, Jammu and Kashmir MLA Omar Abdullah tweeted:

Meanwhile, Congress president-elect Rahul Gandhi too took a dig at PM Modi on Tuesday saying that flying in a sea-plane was good but is a distraction as well.

"There is nothing wrong if Prime Minister Modi wants to fly in the sea-plane, it`s a good thing. But it`s a distraction. The main question is what did he do for the people in the last 22 years?" asked Rahul, while addressing a press conference in Gandhinagar.

The statement by Gandhi was made after PM Modi travelled from Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad to Dharoi Dam via seaplane.

Remaining parts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, are slated to go for polls on December 14. The first phase of polling took place on December 9 and recorded a voter turnout of 68 percent.

Counting of votes will take place on December 18.

The last Congress government in Gujarat was led by Chhabildas Mehta from February 17, 1994, to March 13, 1995.
