New Delhi: The whole world is accusing Norwegian Forest Department for its decision of approving the mass slaughter of its endangered wolf population.
The country is about to cull two-third of its remaining species in wild.
There are estimated to be about 68 wolves remaining in the wilderness areas of Norway, concentrated in the south-east of the country, but under controversial plans approved on Friday as many as 47 of these will be shot, according to The Guardian.
The worst part is the Norwegian government is justifying this mass slaughter plan citing problem that the predators has caused massive damage to their sheep flock.
The green groups who are against this action said that the number of wolves the government plans to kill this year is greater than in any year since 1911. Norway is known for its strong tradition of hunting. In 2015, more than 11,000 hunters applied for license to shoot wolves.
Under the plan, 24 wolves will be shot within the region of the country designated for wolf habitat, while another 13 will be shot in neighboring regions and a further 10 in other areas of the country.
