New Delhi: As Delhi remained choked with toxic air following Diwali celebrations Sunday night, people commuting to their offices complained of nearly 'zero visibility' making them difficult to drive.

Early on Monday morning, the volume of respirable pollutants - PM 2.5 and PM 10 - shot up to alarming highs, breaching the safe limits in the national capital.

The level of PM 10 had breached the 1,000 micrograms mark (in real time) in many parts of the city, whereas the level of PM 2.5 reached 883 micrograms per cubic metre at various areas of Delhi. The permissible level of PM 2.5 is 60 micrograms per cubic metre while PM 10 is 100 micrograms.

On the day of Diwali (October 30), the PM 2.5 levels across each of the 11 pollution monitoring centres were found to be anywhere between a staggering 4 times to 21 times of what they were the week before (October 24).

Air pollution, which is a major environmental risk to health, affects a number of different systems and organs in the human body. Air pollutants that are inhaled have serious impact on health affecting the lungs and the respiratory system.

If you're one of those who resides in Delhi, here is how to check air quality in your area and protect your health. Check it out here!
