Victoria Memorial: This beautiful white marble structure is the first place you must visit in Kolkata. It was designed to commemorate Queen Victoria’s 1901 diamond jubilee. It holds some treasures of the colonial era. Even if you are not into history, this picturesque place has a wonderful exterior and is a must visit for every tourist in Kolkata.

Princep Ghat: A beautiful ghat on the banks of Hoogly, it is perfect place to go at dusk. Take a ride on the boat under the Vidyasagar Setu. See the majestic Hoogly river flow by and see the time stop still. It is a a joy to be when the lights in the city are lit and the entire river reflects the twinkling city lights while you sit on the banks and have cups of tea. 

Park Street: Whether you want to visit the swanky 'Tantra' or relax with a drink or two at 'Auli Pub', Park street is the place to be. 'Flurry's' cakes at the end of the road are to die for so is the music at 'Someplace else'. Have dinner at Magnolia or walk down the chic street to watch others enjoy the evening - Park street is perfect to spend your evenings at. 

Kali Ghat/Dakshineshwar temple: For the religious side of you, both these temples are a must visit. Kali Ghat and Dakshineshwar are one of the most beautiful temples in the country. While the architecture is exquisite, these temples are also considered quite holy. Kali Ghat is considered as a Shakti Peeth and is a highly revered site.

Boi Para - College street: For book lovers this place is a paradise. College street has books from all over the world - and if you can wait a day or two many shopkeepers would be able to get you quite rare books too. Second hand books are also available here in abundance. You can easily find first editions of some old English literature in the shopkeepers' hidden treasure. You have to just look for them taking breaks at the coffee house for a long chat, chai and kobiraji cutlet.
