New Delhi: `Kaum De Heere`, the Punjabi film which is based on the 1984 assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has again grabbed the headlines.
It has now been alleged that the movie which failed to get past the certification board in January managed the feat after paying a bribe close to Rs one lakh. The confession came from an agent who was arrested along with CBFC CEO Rakesh Kumar, on Tuesday. The agent disclosed that the movie was cleared only after money went under the table to Kumar.
`Kaum...` which is scheduled to release on August 22, Friday, may face a ban from the Censor Board if the allegations prove right.
The subject is quiet controversial, as the film is said to be based on the lives of Bhai Kehar Singh, Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, who are considered as martyrs of the Sikh nation by Akal Takht Sahib.
Even though the film makers had claimed that they are only stating facts, the Congress had sought centre`s intervention to ban the film. The party had also asked the intervention to avoid violence between Hindus and Sikhs.
Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal has also asked the home secretary to look into it.
