London: Paul McCartney loved teaming up with Kanye West on "Only One" and likened the process to his earlier collaboration with fellow Beatle John Lennon.

Praising West, McCartney told the Sun newspaper that they got along very well. "When I wrote with John [Lennon], he would sit down with a guitar. I would sit down. We'd ping-pong until we had a song. It was like that [with Kanye]," McCartney, 72, said.

McCartney co-wrote the song which is inspired by West's late mother Donda C Williams and his 22-month-old daughter, North. They also worked together with Rihanna on "FourFiveSeconds."

McCartney, however, was initially apprehensive to work with West, 37, due to the many controversies surrounding him. "He's amazingly talented but controversial and can make eccentric moves. I realized if it didn't work out we'd just say so and shake hands and leave."

The singer followed the social media fight that happened between West and McCartney's fans when the young music fans tweeted that West had "discovered" the 21-time Grammy Award winner.

"It's the best story so we should go with that, it got to be a big Twitter fight. In actual fact the fans who started it then admitted it was a joke. But the point was made. Kids who didn't know me suddenly did because of Kanye and Rihanna," McCartney said.
