London: British band One Direction will continue as four-piece band and will record a fifth album later this year after Zayn Malikcalled it quits.

In a statement, the rest of thegroup said that they were really sad to see Malik leave, but they totally respected his decision and send him all their love for the future, the Mirror reported.

The band further said that the past five years have been beyond amazing and they have gone through so much together, so they will always be friends.

The 22-year-old singer said that his life with One Direction had been more than he could ever have imagined, but after five years, he felt like it was now the right time for him to leave the band.

Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records in 2010 after finishing third on 'The X-Factor'.
