Santosh Sivan boards British film

 Ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan is looking forward to working in a British film, which is set to go on floor in September.

New Delhi: Ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan is looking forward to working in a British film, which is set to go on floor in September.

Sivan, 51, a multiple National film awards winner, however, did not divulge any details about the project.

"Right now I am doing an international movie. We are staring in September. It is not a co-production, it is purely an British film. I am not supposed to say anything about it. They want to announce it themselves," Sivan told PTI on the sidelines of the National Photography Awards here.

The cinematographer has also directed a number of films in Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam like "The Terrorist", "Asoka", "Navarasa", "Urumi", "Ceylon" and "Tahaan". He has directed "Before the Rains", a 2007 Indian-British period drama starring Nandita Das and Linus Roache.

Although he has been doing non-Hindi films regularly, Bollywood seems to have taken an back seat.

When asked what has kept him away from Hindi films, Sivan said, "I have been doing films in Malayalam and Tamil. I am doing different things like teaching in Dubai, London and also being a member of American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) keep me busy."

Sivan has collaborated with ace film director Mani Ratnam in films like "Roja", "Iruvar", "Dil Se", "Raavan" among others. Talking about his association he said, "We have made five films. We get together whenever something interesting comes and when we are free. Besides him, I also do a lot of work with other people."

The cinematographer-director has a production company August Cinema India Pvt Ltd as well and hopes to produce a Hindi film soon.

"We are planning to do something in Hindi, but we have not sat down and decided when and what," he said.
