Mumbai: Priyanka Chopra made headlines as soon as her name was mentioned among the list of presenters for the 88th Academy Awards scheduled to be held on February 28 in Los Angeles. But interestingly, the former Miss World isn’t the first Indian Oscar presenter.

Model-actress Persis Khambatta was the first Indian to join the league of presenters at the Oscars. She had essayed the role of   Lieutenant Ilia in 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' in 1979.

She shared the stage with William Shatner to present the coveted trophy to Ira Wohl for ‘Best Boy’ (Documentary -Feature) and to Saul J. Turell for ‘Paul Robeson: Tribute to an Artist’ for (Documentary- Short Subject) at the 52nd Academy Awards in 1980.
