Los Angeles: 'Arrow' star Manu Bennett is joining the cast of the MTV fantasy series 'Shannara'.

The upcoming show is based on a series of fantasy novels written by Terry Brooks from 1977 onwards, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The 45-year-old actor will play a druid named Allanon, who is the last of his kind. 'Shannara' will be formed of 10 episodes and will be based on the second book The Elfstones of Shannara.

Austin Butler of 'The Carrie Diaries' has been cast as the male lead in the show. He will play Wil Ohmsford, a half-human and half-elf living years after our civilisation has been destroyed who discovers that he is the last of the legendary Shannara family.
