New Delhi: Ace film maker Nagesh Kukunoor, who is working on his new film named ‘Lakshmi’, has doled out Rs 40 lakh for creating an unclean brothel, and reports an entertainment website.
Since the film revolves around a human trafficking victim, Nagesh is going out of his way to ensure the sets of the movie look as real as possible. As per the film maker’s instructions, set designer Haris Umar had visited the red-light areas of New Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai to get clues for his creation. “Brothels are extremely neglected spaces as the inhabitants don’t have an emotional connect with their surroundings – neither the women, nor the men who visit them. These are claustrophobic places, with up to four beds in a pigeonhole-like room,” said Harris to the entertainment daily.
To give realistic touches to the brothel, Haris turned 10 rooms into untidy bordello in order to showcase the film’s characters and their lifestyle. He created vomit by mixing food with acid, burnt tyres to paint the walls with soot and chipped away the wall paint. The crew even made use of used underwear and clothes to hang them on the clothesline.
The whole idea was to transform a neat place into a dirty one. Only the Madam of the brothel has a clean room.
