London: Jude Law has said that he was more than happy to play the reinvented Dr Watson in Guy Ritchie`s ‘Sherlock Holmes’.
Law’s portrayal as the detective`s sidekick in the modern take by the ‘Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels’ filmmaker Guy Ritchie has already been dubbed `Hotson` by the press.
"When I was asked to get involved, Robert (Downey Jr) was already set as Sherlock and Guy was directing and I knew from then that it was going to be a different take on the older films of Sherlock Holmes," the Mirror quoted Jude as saying.
"They weren`t asking me to put on two stone and fool around and put my foot in waste paper baskets, they were asking me to play Watson with a bit more edge,” he added.
"I hadn`t read the books as a boy, so what was intriguing was to see how much of this new `rediscovery` was already in the source material,” said the actor, who turns 37 on December 29.
"It was a happy juggle between going back to Conan Doyle and relishing in all the accuracy that had perhaps been overlooked in the past, and also looking to the future and adding a new energy for an audience that we hope will discover Sherlock Holmes for the first time,” he added.
