Johnny Depp to star as lovelorn vampire in ‘Dark Shadows’ film

London: Johnny Depp is set to star as a lovelorn vampire in the film adaptation of the hit Sixties US cult TV series ‘Dark Shadows’.

The ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ star will play Barnabas Collins in the big screen version of the Gothic soap opera.

“I was obsessed with the character as a child. It triggered my earliest desire to become an actor,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

The 46-year-old actor further revealed he, along with director Tim Burton, intended to come out with at least three ‘Dark Shadows’ films.

The first instalment, based on the series that ran for 594 episodes over 14 years, is expected to hit the theatres next year.
