Veteran actor Farooq Sheikh laid to rest

Mumbai: Noted Bollywood actor Farooq Sheikh, who passed away in Dubai last week, was laid to rest late Monday night at a burial ground in suburban Andheri in presence of his family, fans and many members from the film fraternity.

The actor, 65, had suffered a massive heart attack on Friday while holidaying with his family in Dubai. He is survived by his wife Roopa and two daughters.

His body was flow to Mumbai from Dubai earlier in the day and was kept at his residence in Andheri for people to pay their last respect.

Among the people who paid their last tributes to the actor were lyricist Javed Akhtar, actors Shabana Azmi, Farhan Akhtar, Dipti Nawal, Tabu, Shekhar Suman, Rahul Bose, Anupam Kher and Johny Lever along with social activist Teesta Setalwad and politician Subodh Kant Sahay.

Born on March 25, 1948, Farooq Sheikh, a theatre actor, began his career in Bollywood with `Garam Hava` in the 1973. He has acted in memorable films like Satyajit Ray`s `Shatranj Ke Khiladi` (1977), `Noorie` (1979), `Chashme Buddoor` (1981) and `Kissi Se Na Kehna` (1983). His last film was the recently released `Club 60`. He last performance will also be seen in upcoming film `Youngistan`.

He also hosted the popular Zee TV show `Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai` in which he interviewed many Bollywood celebrities.
