New Delhi: Sonakshi Sinha – who made her Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan with 2010’s ‘Dabangg’ – has turned a year older today.

Daughter of veteran Bollywood actor Shatrugan Sinha – who is lovingly called Shotgun by one and all – was born June 2, 1987.

After completing her course in fashion deigning from Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women`s University, Mumbai, Sonakshi even went to design the costumes for ‘Mera Dil Leke Dekho’ in 2005. But, she soon realised that Bollywood was her calling and that acting was her real area of her interest.

After bagging the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for ‘Dabanng’, Junior Shotgun went to star in some of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters – ‘Rowdy Rathore’, ‘Son of Sardaar’ and ‘Dabangg 2’. She also did a dance number in the critically acclaimed movie ‘OMG: Oh My God!’, which was a satire on the prevailing system of misleading people in the name of god.

Even though she is often praised for impeccable acting skills, Sonakshi has been slammed very frequently for her weight. However, unlike her contemporaries, Sonakshi is one of the few actresses who are not afraid to talk about such issues.

She has even slammed the media for focussing too much on the weight of actresses and putting pressure on women to be like movie stars.

Sonakshi will next be seen romancing Ranveer Singh – her first time with an actor her age – in the period film ‘Lootera’, which is partially based on O’Henry’s short story ‘The Last Leaf’.

Prabhudeva even took to Twitter to wish the actress and even posted a picture of them together. The two have worked together in ‘OMG: Oh My God!’, wherein he trained her for the song ‘Go Govinda’.

“Wishing @sonakshisinha a very happy bday.May she continue entertaining us n winning hearts 4 years.god bless u,” Prabhudeva tweeted.

Here’s wishing the talented and unconventional actress a very happy birthday!
