Salman Khan hit-and-run case: Hearing adjourned till August 21

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Salman Khan might be a bundle of nerves right now as his biggest release `Kick` has hit the theatres today, but what continues to add on to his woes is the 2002 hit-and-run case. According to reports, the hearing in the infamous case has been adjourned till August 21.

It has been learnt that Salman`s lawyer has filed an exemption stating that the 48-year-old actor was not required in court as there were no witness deposing today. Earlier, police statements of two witnesses were reported to be `untraceable` which led to the case being adjourned for a month to July 25. The prosecution had informed Sessions Judge D.W. Deshpande that the original police statements of two witnesses could not be traced, though both witnesses were ready for examination.

The actor is now facing an additional charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder which attracts a 10-year jail term.So far, 11 witnesses have been examined, of which one turned hostile. 

Salman is accused of driving his SUV onto a pavement in Bandra Sep 28, 2002, leading to the death of one person and injuries to four others. On Dec 5, 2013, a Mumbai court ordered a retrial in the case which is now underway in the sessions court.
