People losing their senses, values: Waheeda Rehman

Kolkata: Stating that "people are losing their values", legendary actress Waheeda Rehman suggested that the policemen be taught proper values to properly deal with rising incidents of crime against women.

She also slammed the theory that the influx of people of other states into Maharashtra is linked to the rise of such incidents.

"I cannot believe that. Men are men. People are people. Outsiders, insiders do not make a difference. People are losing senses and their values. They are going crazy and mad," Waheeda told reporters on the sidelines of a fund-raising event organised by the Tata Medical Centre and Taj Bengal here.

A 22-year-old photojournalist working for an English magazine was raped allegedly by five men in Mumbai`s Shakti Mills compound Thursday. She was accompanied by a male colleague, who was brutally thrashed by the assailants.

The photojournalist suffered grievous internal injuries.

"Bombay used to be the safest city... it is now becoming very scary, very bad," said Waheeda, 77.

"I think policing needs to be increased and they also need to be taught proper values and duties. Sometimes they are not fulfilling their duties," added the 77-year-old.
