Mumbai: Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik looked radiant and cheerful after their marriage reception concluded on Thursday and the hullabaloo surrounding their wedding came to an end. In a media interview to a news channel, the newly wedded couple candidly spoke about their love, marriage and all the hype and hoopla over the India-Pakistan connection.

Conversing about the Ayesha Siddiqui episode, Sania said, “I was confident about Shoaib and during those days, we didn’t have a single argument or fight. It is something which has made our relationship stronger.”

Talking about their past lives, Sania added that she went through a lot after the broken engagement with Mohammad Sohrab.

The couple, who met six years ago through mutual friends, said that both were mutually attracted to each other. Sania said that she liked Shoaib’s simplicity whereas Shoaib always wanted to marry someone who would understand him and would be a sportsperson.

When enquired about the political ruckus over their marriage, a confident Sania said, “I was not marrying a Pakistani, I was marrying a person. People try to make political statements but forget that we are human beings.”

Solicited on their immediate goals, Sania said that she is looking forward to play the Commonwealth games, Asian games and Wimbledon whereas Shoaib wants to submit an appeal against his ban and is eagerly waiting to play for Pakistan.

However, Shoaib reiterated that Sania will always represent India as a sportsperson and will get all the necessary support.
