Mumbai: Chetan Bhagat, who has been quite vocal about the state of political affairs, has come out in support of Shobhaa De, against whom, Shiv Sena moved a privilege motion on Wednesday, demanding an apology from her for her comments.
De, on Tuesday had slammed the Maharashtra Government’s order to make screening of Marathi films in multiplexes compulsary during the prime time. She took to Twitter to express her angst against the government and tagged Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis as ‘Diktatwala’.
To show solidarity with De, Bhagat tweeted:
Shiv Sena bullying @DeShobhaa for her opinions, to position themselves as marathi saviours, is not cool. Save farmers, don't attack authors.

Real community pride comes from real achievement and real progress. Not divisive politics, bullying the powerless and being touchy.

BJP trying to make Shiv Sena redundant by being 'more Marathi' than them. Shiv Sena attacking author to show same. Sufferer? Marathis.

Until voters keep responding to identity politics, politicians will keep doing identity politics. I don't blame the politician at all.
