New Delhi: After being grilled for his illegal stay in India, Pakistani singer Adnan Sami is once again in the limelight for allegedly evading tax on 15 shows in India since July.

According to a tabloid, the singer, who has recently been granted 3 months visa extension by the Ministry of Home Affairs, has new issues to sort out now.

On Oct 15, when a team of officials visited Sami’s residence to collect certain documents under the orders of Service Tax Commissioner, R Sekar, found that the singer did not pay taxes for 15 performances he did in India since July 2012. Following this, the officials also issued summons, asking him to be present before the department on Monday.

“We have registered a case against Sami, and have also issued summons to him,” the Deputy Commissioner (Service Tax) Sameer Wankhede said.

On the other hand, Sami on being questioned by the officials on the issue of unpaid tax said that the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) had frozen his accounts, which is why he was unable to pay the money.

The officials are currently investigating the matter and will soon decide the amount the singer has to fork out.

Talking to the tabloid, the singer said, “There is no accusation or allegation of tax evasion. I have only received summons to appear and provide certain documents. I am doing so as I have always been a taxpayer and law abiding citizen. I would be happy to provide any documents necessary to assist the department.”
