New Delhi: Queen of crime fiction, Phyllis Dorothy James usually known as PD James has passed away at the age of 94.
The news was confirmed by her agent who said she passed away peacefully at her Oxford home on Thursday morning.
The English crime writer was best known for her series of detective novels starring the policeman and poet Adam Dalgliesh .
James was born in Oxford, UK and began her writing career in the 1950s.
UK PM David Cameron mourned her death and paid tribute to the noted writer on his official Twitter handle.

Her first novel `Cover Her face` was published in 1962 which featured the investigator and poet Adam Dalgliesh named after a teacher at Cambridge High School.
Many of James' detective novels were adapted by television by Anglia Television for the ITV network in the UK in 1980s.
Some of her bestselling novels include Adam Dalgliesh mysteries , Cordelia Gray mysteries , Innocent Blood and many more among others.
The acclaimed British writer has over 20 novels to her credit.
