Uday Chopra is back in new avatar as writer-producer

Mumbai: Actor Uday Chopra who took a three year sabbatical after `Dhoom 2` is back in a new avatar that of a writer-producer of the `Pyar Impossible` releasing on January 8.

However, Uday refused to say that `Pyar Impossible` is his comeback film in which he also plays the lead opposite Priyanka Chopra.

"I had not given up acting even though I was contemplating to do so as right offers were not coming my way. All offers were like that of Ali from Dhoom and Dhoom 2," the younger son of filmmaker Yash Chopra said.

Uday says he identifies with the geek character of Abhay in `Pyar Impossible`.

"I consider myself as one and have gone through similar experiences in love. Like Abhay, I am too a homebody who is into technology, loves a girl who does not bother to give him a second look," the actor turned writer-producer said.

Uday said he decided to play the role because he realised that he could do it as easily as anybody else. "I felt I was living my life while writing and making the film," Uday said.

"I was working in the internet division of Yash Raj films for three years when my brother encouraged me to try a hand at writing. The film`s director Jugal Hansraj helped me improvise my script," Uday revealed.

He said Priyanka Chopra was always his first choice for the lead role. "Priyanka believes in working as a team and give suggestions and inputs rather than just mouthing dialogues before the camera," Uday said.

When asked if he plans to emulate father Yash and brother Aditya by directing films, Uday said direction is a 24x7 all encompassing job and he would try a hand at it few years down the line.

He said the three year break from films was a good change for him. "You will see it on screen," Uday said.

He said `Dhoom 3` may happen in 2010. "I am not directing that film. Apart from the characters of Jai (Abhishek) and Ali Myself), rest of the cast has not been finalised," he said.

Uday revealed his brother Aditya did not like the first draft of `Pyar Impossible`. "He told me to go ahead and make the film if I wished. But also told me that he had not liked it. He was satisfied after I revised several times", he said.

Speaking about his brother keeping away from public glare, Uday said his brother does not want to be recognised.

"It`s his personal choice. He is good at what he does and hence we have to leave him alone," he said.

Uday said pressure of being part of a big banner like Yash Raj forces one to give his best.

"Such pressure is good," he said. He said future projects as a writer-producer will depend on the fate of his debut production.

However, he added he wants to make an English language
film. "Though it is a risky idea," he said.
