Mumbai, July 03: Known for his outspoken ways and upfront remarks, Irrfan Khan never disappoints when it comes to making controversial statements. The actor has once again stirred quite a hornet’s nest with his comments of how nudity is still a taboo in Indian cinema where lovemaking scenes are performed with clothes on.
Playing one of the protagonist in Jennifer Lynch’s ‘Hisss’, the actor went into a dilemma when he was asked to bare all for an erotic love making sequence with Divya Dutta.
Though the actor sportingly states that he had no inhibitions about going nude for the scenes, he did try to convince the director that such scenes are handled differently in India.
Speaking to a news daily, Irrfan said, “I had absolutely no problem when my director Jennifer Lynch said I would have to take off all my clothes for a lovemaking scene with Divya Dutta, who plays my wife. But I suddenly thought that Indian couples make love with their clothes on and I conveyed the same to Jennifer.”
Unable to gulp it, Jennifer was stunned after hearing this information. “She asked me how people can have sex without taking their clothes off. And then, I gave her a demonstration. I told her about my scene with Tabu in ‘The Namesake’. That was some violent lovemaking, with our clothes on. Jennifer was fascinated, but unconvinced,” added Irrfan.
Bent on convincing Jennifer, Irrfan then thought of a new plan. He suggested that if he plays an orthodox Brahmin whose mother-in-law has a habit of walking into his bedroom unannounced, then the scene could be done with clothes on. “Given the circumstances, my character and his wife would hardly be expected to take off their clothes. And that convinced Jennifer,” said Irrfan.
As a result, Irrfan and Divya had sex for the camera with their clothes on. An amused Irrfan said, “The most relieved was Divya. She was waiting with bated breath to see if I could manage to convince Jennifer. Once everything was sorted out, our lovemaking scene lasted for about an hour.”
