Kolkata: Leading theatre groups from Africa, France, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh will showcase unique forms of drama and choreography at the fourth edition of the 'Bratyajon International Theatre Festival' here from June 4.

Besides teams from Kolkata and Delhi, troupes from Aleph Theatre, Paris, Janakaraliya, Sri Lanka, National Academy of Performing Arts, Pakistan, Prachyanat, Bangladesh as well as a cultural ensemble from Burundi in east Africa will perform at the festival.

Running till June 10 at the Academy of Fine Arts, the event will be dedicated to Bengali playwright Girish Chandra Ghosh (1844-1912).

Organised by the 'Kalindi Bratyajon' group in collaboration with the Alliance Francaise du Bengale, the festival's inaugural will be attended by Subodh Patnaik of 'Natya Chetana' group from Odisha and Suresh Bhardwaj, faculty National School of Drama and director of the Delhi-based troupe Aakar Kala Sangam.

Burundi's production 'Black Beats of Africa' is known for its mix of traditional dance forms and drumming while Janakaraliya headed by veteran Sri Lankan director Parakrama Niriella is popular for introducing the mobile theatre concept.
