Mumbai: About 36 kilometers southwest of Pune, one can find the historic temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built by Peshwa Bajirao I’s son Nanasaheb, the Baneshwar temple is home to a beautiful Shiva Linga which conceals another Linga underground. This is the most unique feature of this temple.

When you reach the sanctum sanctorum, the priest will show you the hidden Shiva Linga and let offer your prayers. He will also let you garland the Shiva Linga and do abhishek with water. You can blissfully chant the Shiva Moola Mantra and feel the divine presence around.

One can find fishes and turtles in the two water tanks which have been built within the temple complex compound.

Surrounded by a bird sanctuary with dense forestation, the Baneshwar Temple neighbourhood has a lot to offer to lovers of nature.

During the monsoons, visitors can grab beautiful glimpses of the Baneshwar waterfall.

You will be able to connect with the divine and gift yourself a day far away from the hustle and bustle of mad urban life.
