Beijing: A Chinese film director, who won the prestigious Golden Bear prize at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2007, was detained Monday by police for soliciting sex.

Wang Quan'an, 48 and a 31-year-old prostitute were caught by police at an apartment in Dongcheng district last Wednesday, Xinhua reported.

Wang confessed that he had contacted the prostitute on phone and solicited sex for three consecutive days last week, the police said.

Wang graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 1991.

His film, ‘Tuya's Marriage’, which depicts rural life in Inner Mongolia, won him the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival.
