Retail inflation rose to 3.65 percent in February mainly on account of surge in price of food items like fruits, sugar and confectionery.

New Delhi: Retail inflation rose to 3.65 percent in February mainly on account of surge in price of food items like fruits, sugar and confectionery.

Retail inflation, measured in terms of Consumer Price Index (CPI), was at 3.17 percent in January.

It was 5.26 percent in February last year.

 

Prices of sugar and confectionery items rose by 18.83 percent in February while inflation in milk and milk product increased by 4.22 percent.

Inflation in fruits was higher at 8.33 percent, fuel and light at 3.9 percent in February. The rate of price rise in meat and fish was 3.5 percent in February.

Inflation in vegetables continued in the negative zone at (-)8.29 percent as against (-)15.62 percent a month earlier, as per the data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

In pulses and products category also, the rate of price rise was negative at (-)9.02 percent.
