New Delhi: Petrol price was on Friday hiked by Rs 2.21 per litre and diesel by Rs 1.79 a litre in line with global trends.

The price hike announced by Indian Oil Corp (IOC) is excluding local sales tax or VAT and will be effective from midnight tonight.

After including VAT, petrol in Delhi will cost Rs 68.94 a litre from Rs 66.10 per litre currently.

Similarly, diesel will cost Rs 56.68 a litre as compared to Rs 54.57 at present.

Prices were last revised on December 1 when petrol rate went up by 13 paise a litre while diesel rates were cut by 12 paise, excluding state levies.

"The current level of international product prices of petrol and diesel and Rupee-US Dollar exchange rate warrant increase in selling price of petrol and diesel, the impact of which is being passed on to the consumers with this price revision," IOC said in a statement.
