India's October retail inflation eases to 3.31%, September IIP at 4.5%

New Delhi: Driven by softer food prices India`s retail inflation rate eased rose to 3.31 percent in October as compared to 3.77 percent in September, government data showed on Friday.

On the other hand the country's industrial output rose in September with a marginal rise of 4.5 percent as compared to 4.3 percent in August, official data showed.

According to the data furnished by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) deflated retail inflation fell to a one-year low of 3.31 percent as compared to 3.58 percent in October a year ago.

The retail inflation number is the lowest since September 2017 when it touched 3.28 percent.

The rate of price rise in the food basket contracted by 0.86 percent in October compared to 0.51 percent rise in September, Vegetable prices declined by 8.06 percent in October against a 4.15 percent contraction in September.

Inflation also slowed to 0.35 percent in the fruit basket as against 1.12 percent recorded a month ago.
