New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday met her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal at the national capital and is learnt to have discussed the upcoming presidential election in which the opposition parties are seeking to put up a consensus candidate.
Yesterday, Banerjee met Congress President Sonia Gandhi, and the two leaders were said to have discussed the possibility of fielding a joint presidential candidate by the opposition.
Mamata is said to be leaving back to Kolkata on Thursday.
While the Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha told IANS that it was a courtesy call by Kejriwal, party sources said that he and Banerjee, who is also the Trinamool Congress chief, discussed efforts to forge a consensus among opposition parties on the presidential candidate.
The meeting lasted for about 40 minutes.
After an hour-long meeting between Banerjee and her Delhi counterpart Kejriwal, she announced that the two parties will 'act together in the presidential election'.
Meanwhile, BJP MP from West Delhi Parvesh Sahib Singh and BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Wednesday staged a protest near the South Avenue residence of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee.
