Delhi: Metro employees call off strike after minister agrees to look into demands

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro non-executive staff have called off their Monday strike after Urban affairs minister asked DMRC to look into their demands.

The non-executive staff including customer relation assistants, maintenance staff, station controllers, train operators and others are protesting since Friday. Reportedly, the metro management authority failed to implement a two-year-old decision to upgrade their pay scales.

Earlier, the metro staff body had threatened to halt the metro services from Monday if their demand of pay hike was not fulfilled, said a report.

However, in a meeting held between DMRC Managing Director Magu Singh and the non-executive staff till late Saturday evening, they decided to undergo a mutual negotiation. In 2015, Delhi Metro had agreed 'in principle' to upgrade and merge the pay scale of maintainers. As per the agreement was likely to be introduced, reported India.com.

"Recommendation under the 3rd Pay Commission has been accepted by the government and orders are to be issued anytime. All issues related to pay shall be dealt shortly after issuing of orders by the government," the DMRC management said in a statement.

Also, the staff union asked for a CBI probe into the alleged financial irregularities prevailing in the organisation.

As per the statement, the issues are purely incidental to the individuals and the attempt on their part to push their personal agenda and invoke others to cause disruption is uncalled for.
