Mumbai: The world celebrates International Women’s day on the eighth day of March every year to hail womanhood and everything associated the power of the feminine. But do you know men too have a day dedicate to celebrate manhood? Well, if weren’t aware of it, then here’s an interesting information for you.

International Men’s Day in celebrated on November 19 in over 70 countries.

According to The Irish Sun, the special day for men “focuses on raising awareness for discrimination and male health” and “this year, the theme for International Men’s Day is positive male role models.”

The official website of International Men’s Day says, “Objectives of International Men's Day include a focus on men's and boy's health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion for men to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care while highlighting the discrimination against them.”

The site stresses on the fact that not just mothers, even fathers play a pivotal role in children’s upbringing.

It says, “No matter how great a mother is, she cannot replace what a father provides to a child. Irrefutable research shows that mothers are typically nurturing, soft, gentle, comforting, protective and emotional. Fathers tend to encourage risk-taking and to be challenging, prodding, loud, playful and physical. Children need a balance of protection and reasonable risk-taking. If a positive male role model isn't around, there is a void in this child's life. Children without positive male role models are more likely to be involved in criminal activity, premarital sexual activity, do poorer in school and participate in unhealthy activities.”

The website also highlights the sacrifices a man makes in his life that more often than not go unnoticed.

“Men make sacrifices everyday in their place of work, in their role as husbands and fathers, for their families, for their friends, for their communities and for their nation. International Men's Day is an opportunity for people everywhere of goodwill to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society for the greater good of all,” the site adds.
