About the match:

After winning a match each in the best of three finals, the continental giants gathered in Dhaka for one final meeting. Under floodlights, India needed to chase down 315, a world record.

A brilliant opening stand between Sourav Ganguly (128 off 138) and Sachin Tendulkar (41 off 26), allowed India to promote Robin Singh at no, 3 and the gutsy all-rounder scored 82 off 83 balls in pre Twenty20 era, keeping India at hunt.

But quick wickets, top Saqlain Mushtag, reduced India to 250/2 to 306/7. Then Javgal Srinath joined Kanitkar, and India needed three runs from last two balls.

Then, Kanitkar hit Mushtaq for a four to win the match for India.
