New Delhi: Following the sad demise of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the situation in the state has become volatile. With India set to host England in 5th Test of the series on December 16, question have arose regarding the feasibility of the match being hosted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
The law and order situation in the city, especially in the city. is a point of concern as for the authorities of the BCCI and Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).
A Ranji match between Orissa and Jharkhand is scheduled to take place on Wednesday but the players have been reportedly informed to not to venture out of the hotels.
As per a report in Mirror, BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rahul Johri have spoken to TNCA bosses N Srinivasan and Kasi Viswanath regarding the situation. Since, if the Test is to be moved to a different venue, a call has to be taken as soon as possible.
TNCA, however, has assured BCCI that extreme measures are not required but BCCI reportedly is not taking anything for granted.
BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke has also confirmed that no steps to move the 5th Test to a different venue have been taken yet. Though, that doesn't mean that BCCI are not looking for a Plan B in case situation goes out of control.
“We have told the BCCI that we’re going ahead with our preparation. If the board is preparing Plan B, that is fine. They must be prepared for every eventuality but there is no change in schedule from our side as of now,” TNCA's Kasi Viswanath was quoted saying by Mirror.
