New Delhi: With stiff competition for slots, none of the Indian batsman can take things for granted.

Not just today, but this has been the scenario in Indian cricket for several years.

The country has consistently produced serious batting talent, which has gone on to make a mark on the world stage.

The latest batsman to take world cricket by storm is KL Rahul. The stylish right-hander was initially considered as a typical Test batsman.

But of late, he has shown tremendous improvement in limited-overs cricket.

Whenever selectors have given him a chance, the Karnataka batsman has grabbed it with both hands.

Rahul now has tons in all formats of the game. His most recent came in Flordia in the 1st T20I against the West Indies.

He also played a brilliant 158-run knock at Kingston in the Test series.

Despite the presence of Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, Rahul carved out a special place for himself in the Royal Challengers Bangalore side as well.

Considering his rise in Indian cricket, former team director Ravi Shastri termed him as the most improved cricketer in the world.

"KL Rahul is the most improved player in the world in last one year. He is not only good in Test cricket, but in other two formats. He has a great future ahead of him. He is certainly going to do well for India in all the formats," he told the Times of India.

While Test skipper Kohli too has shown tremendous improvement in 2016, Shastri is right when it comes to his observation of Rahul.
