Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the second match of the Indian Premier League 2020 between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab to be held at the Dubai International Stadium in the UAE.

Delhi Capitals have beaten Kings XI Punjab in a super-over thriller. Kings XI will be left to rue their chance as at one stage they needed just 1 run to win off the finals 3 balls in the final over but failed to capitalize and with the scores tied at 157 at the end of the allotted 20 overs, the match proceeded into the super over.

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada was the hero for the Capitals in the Super over as he dismissed KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal of consecutive deliveries to end Kings XI’s super over in just 3 balls with just two runs on the board.

With just 3 runs to chase, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer chased it down easily to kick-off Delhi’s IPL 2020 campaign with a thrilling victory.

Choosing to bowl first, Kings XI decision proved unerring with Delhi stuttering at 13-3 but Marcus Stoinis (53 off 21 balls) last-over blitz powered them to 157. Mayank Agarwal single-handedly took Kings XI close to victory with his magnificent 89 (60 balls) but failed to take them over the final hurdle.

Over the years, the two sides have got the distressing label of being the league’s perennial underachievers. The two franchises are among the three active teams (Royal Challengers Bangalore being the third) to have never lifted the IPL trophy.

Delhi Capitals, rechristened last year, reached their first IPL playoffs last year after a gap of seven years with Ricky Ponting at the helm of coaching affairs.

The side bolstered their squad this year with the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Marcus Stoinis and Anrich Nortje. They now look more solid in all departments with several combinations to choose from.

Kings XI, on the other hand, had a disappointing couple of seasons, finishing 6th and 7th in the points table in IPL 2019 and 2018 respectively. Rahul was announced as the new skipper to turn the fortunes in their favor in IPL 2020.

They would rely on the firepower of ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Agarwal, Jimmy Neesham and Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell was in red-hot form in Australia’s recent limited overs tour of England and was awarded the Man of the series trophy in his side’s ODI victory.

All in all, it looks a pretty even contest on paper and we expect a lot of fireworks in the middle today.

20 September 2020, 22:07 PM

Two quick Wickets!! R Ashwin picks-up a wicket off his very first ball as a Delhi Capitals player when Karun Nair hits a thick edge and is caught. Nicholas Pooran is dismissed soon after when Ashwin rips his stumps with a clever arm ball. This is some DC debut for Ashwin. He is changing the game against his former team. 20 September 2020, 22:05 PM

Wicket! Mohit Sharma hits the timber and sends back Kings XI skipper KL Rahul. It was a peach of a delivery from the veteran pacer. Kings XI Punjab 33-1 (5 overs)

20 September 2020, 21:59 PM

Delhi Capitals having some fun on Twitter:

What an over. Shemron Hetmyer is the new man in for Delhi. There is a huge appeal for Lbw against him immediately but KL Rahul doesn't take the review. He loops the ball-up on the very next ball but Gowtham drops tha catch at square-leg. It was a half-chance. Delhi Capitals 7-1 (2 overs)
